Why Proper Marketing And Management In Small Businesses ...

Entrepreneurs are a breed on their own. They seldom receive public praise for their efforts and they have to spend enormous amounts of energy in making their dreams come true. The process is almost always difficult and it is not easy to achieve success in business. Marketing and management in small businesses is a very important aspect of success.

Many entrepreneurs achieve early success because they have conceived of an idea or product that is new or novel. In the long term, however, continued success depends to a large degree on the ability of the business to maintain their innovation and their fresh approach. Client needs change and the ways in which business is conducted also change constantly.

Even the most spectacular initial growth will slow down unless the company is working according to a well designed long term operating strategy. Care should be taken to manage the business in such a way that new opportunities are exploited quickly and to prevent the enterprise from becoming stagnant.

One of the biggest dangers faced by entrepreneurs is their own success. Many businesspeople become so entangled in the day to day operations of their businesses that they start to neglect those unique qualities that helped them achieve success in the first instance. The answer lay in thoughtful delegation of humdrum tasks to other people.

It may be a good idea to outsource non essential services as far as is possible. Entrepreneurs need to pay attention to those things that they are best at. This normally includes the formulation of new ideas, customer service and the development of new processes. Aspects such as bookkeeping and other non core functions should be left to professionals.

There are many factors that contribute to the success of a business, but marketing and management in small businesses must surely rate as the most important. By ensuring that the business is productive and by making sure that the clients remain satisfied it is possible to build a small enterprise into a long term success.

Runaway planets zoom at a fraction of light speed

ScienceDaily (Mar. 22, 2012) ? Seven years ago, astronomers boggled when they found the first runaway star flying out of our galaxy at a speed of 1.5 million miles per hour. The discovery intrigued theorists, who wondered: If a star can get tossed outward at such an extreme velocity, could the same thing happen to planets?

New research shows that the answer is yes. Not only do runaway planets exist, but some of them zoom through space at a few percent of the speed of light -- up to 30 million miles per hour.

"These warp-speed planets would be some of the fastest objects in our galaxy. If you lived on one of them, you'd be in for a wild ride from the center of the galaxy to the Universe at large," said astrophysicist Avi Loeb of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

"Other than subatomic particles, I don't know of anything leaving our galaxy as fast as these runaway planets," added lead author Idan Ginsburg of Dartmouth College.

Such speedy worlds, called hypervelocity planets, are produced in the same way as hypervelocity stars. A double-star system wanders too close to the supermassive black hole at the galactic center. Strong gravitational forces rip the stars from each other, sending one away at high speed while the other is captured into orbit around the black hole.

For this study, the researchers simulated what would happen if each star had a planet or two orbiting nearby. They found that the star ejected outward could carry its planets along for the ride. The second star, as it's captured by the black hole, could have its planets torn away and flung into the icy blackness of interstellar space at tremendous speeds.

A typical hypervelocity planet would slingshot outward at 7 to 10 million miles per hour. However, a small fraction of them could gain much higher speeds under ideal conditions.

Current instruments can't detect a lone hypervelocity planet since they are dim, distant, and very rare. However, astronomers could spot a planet orbiting a hypervelocity star by watching for the star to dim slightly when the planet crosses its face in a transit.

For a hypervelocity star to carry a planet with it, that planet would have to be in a tight orbit. Therefore, the chances of seeing a transit would be relatively high, around 50 percent.

"With one-in-two odds of seeing a transit, if a hypervelocity star had a planet, it makes a lot of sense to watch for them," said Ginsburg.

Eventually, such worlds will escape the Milky Way and travel through the intergalactic void.

"Travel agencies advertising journeys on hypervelocity planets might appeal to particularly adventurous individuals," added Loeb.

The research will be published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, in a paper authored by Idan Ginsburg, Avi Loeb, and Gary Wegner (Dartmouth College).

TweetDeck gets updated with improved list management, inline media and more

Image
You'll still have to wait a bit longer for a major update to the mobile apps, but Twitter has today rolled out some big changes to TweetDeck for Mac, Windows and Chrome. That includes some added options for lists (including the ability to create and edit lists from within the application), new activity and interactions columns, inline media previews, and a new "Edit & RT" feature in place of the previous "Quote" option. You can get a quick preview of all that in the video after the break, or simply try it out yourself by downloading or updating the application for your platform of choice (it of course remains completely free).

Dr. Dre To Produce Horror Movie 'Thaw'

Movie focuses on ancient evil unearthed from a glacier.

Dr. Dre knows beats and he's one of the best at verbally eviscerating his enemies. But now the reclusive rap icon and music mogul is getting ready to enter a whole new arena of battle: the slasher movie.

According to Variety, Dre is set to co-produce the horror thriller "Thaw" for the Crucial Films movie banner. The script for the film will be written by Vik Weet, with a story focusing on an "ancient evil that emerges from the rapidly melting ice in the Yukon."

Variety noted that Weet curiously has also written another script for an as-yet-untitled thriller, to be directed by action veteran Renny Harlin about the investigation into the 1959 Dyatlov Pass incident, where nine experienced hikers were found dead in Russia's Ural Mountains.

Dre is no stranger to the movie business, with a résumé that includes acting appearances in the 1996 heist flick "Set It Off," as well as turns in the comedy "The Wash" and cop drama "Training Day." He announced a deal in 2007 to team with New Line Cinema's Crucial Films to produce a series of dark comedies and horror films and "Thaw" would be the first effort under that compact.

The move into movies is just one of the big deals Dre could be cooking up. According to reports, HTC, the company that bought a majority stake in his Beats By Dr. Dre brand of headphones line -- which he co-founded with Interscope boss and "American Idol" mentor Jimmy Iovine— is in talks to acquire the popular online music service MOG.

And, of course, Dre is also still working on his long-promised Detox album. Rick Ross recently told MTV News that he had joined the likes of Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Nas as a contributor
 to the top secret project.

"We making some things happen, man— we just gonna see where the pieces fall," Ross said. "But we most definitely putting in major work.

Are you confused about Workplace Health and Safety?

Are you confused about Workplace Health and Safety? When speaking with clients from a diverse range of industries regarding Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), there is one word that appears to be repeated more than any other, and that word is ?confused?.

Whether we?re talking about workers, volunteers, penalties, reasonably practicable or health and safety duties, the general consensus is that people understand the importance of Work Health and Safety, but are genuinely confused about it all. So let?s have a look at some of the hot topics that has many of us scratching our heads.

Prior to the 31st December 2011, if you were a workplace with 30 or more employees (by definition) you were required to have a Work Health and Safety Officer or ?WHSO?. This was mandatory. In saying that, many workplaces that had 30 or less employees (by definition) benefited by embracing a WHSO for their workplace, as a proactive way of mitigating risks to their business operation.

Workplaces that were required to have a WHSO, and ?invested? in the maintenance person or the greenkeeper to sit a WHSO course just so they could meet the bare minimum of Legislative requirement, actually brought more harm to their business operations and the entire workplace than good. Placing no importance on integrating the health and safety risks with the business operations places a huge amount of risk on the business and the people within it. Many businesses continued on the path of neglecting their health and safety obligations.

?

As of 31st December 2011, all WHSOs ceased to exist, so what?s next? Well, it has been put forward by the Government that workplaces should embrace Health and Safety Advisors to more or less carry on with the role that the WHSO was previously fulfilling. This recommendation is for ALL workplaces, regardless of whether you currently have a WHSO or not.

?

Health and Safety Advisors provide valuable assistance to businesses in meeting their duties under current Workplace Health and Safety Laws and can continue to do so under the new Laws. Many businesses are taking on board Health and Safety Advisors to assist them in complying with their obligations under the new Work Health and Safety Laws.

They see this as a replacement for the WHSO, and also see the value in it when taking into consideration the legal jungle relating to health and safety and the very steep penalties associated.

In particular, the model Work Health and Safety Laws impose a specific duty on Officers of corporations and unincorporated bodies such as Clubs and Associations to exercise Due Diligence to ensure that the Corporation, Club or Association meets its Work Health and Safety obligations.

As Workplace Health and Safety Officers were employed to provide information on hazards and risks associated with the workplace or work activities, so are trained Health and Safety Advisors. There are advantages for a Corporation, Club or Association in implementing a trained?Health and Safety Advisor to assist an Officer to satisfy their Due Diligence obligations.

It is important to note, the duty to exercise Due Diligence will always remain with the Workplace Health and Safety Officer and cannot be outsourced or delegated to a safety advisor such as a Health and Safety Advisor. The Advisor?s role is to assist the Officer in their duties and responsibilities as part of best practice workplace health and safety.

?

Employing a trained Health and Safety Advisor is one available option to help Officers meet their duties. The Government has allowed current WHSO personnel to upgrade their qualifications to the Nationally Recognised Certificate IV in OHS in a 2 day bridging course for $500 (only available until December 2012). Other options include completing the qualification online or as a traineeship where Government Funding may be available to you.

?

Hopefully I have clarified some of the grey areas; however as with all OH&S issues, there is rarely a definitive line between right and wrong which highlights the need for a best practice approach. Please feel free to contact me for more information on Health and Safety Advisor training.

Workers Compensation Insurance California Benefits | welcome to ...

Workers Compensation Insurance California

Workers compensation insurance California is a kind of service that is provided as a way to enable the workers in their conduction of duties. It offers an assurance that every thing will be okay at the finish of the day. They can consequently carry out their regular duties with out having to be concerned about their health.

Due to the rise of office associated accidents and the accompanying law suits, most organizations have taken it upon themselves to ensure that all their employees are covered. It does not matter what type of cover they go for, what matters is that they are covered by a provider. It consequently indicates that they are safe to engage in business with.

There are covers that protect employees against loss of work. This means that the employee is entitled to some monthly advantages in the occasion that they lose their work. This is for the employee to be in a position to use before they can get another job.

There are a few things to think about when filling in the insurance types. One of this is to make sure that the info you offer in the form is accurate and that it can be verified. Supplying wrong info might disqualify you from receiving any advantages that might be payable.

There are many firms that have engaged in the provision of these services to the current work force. Not all the firms can be trusted in this either. This is because like in all fields there are people that do not care about the welfare of other people except that of them. They only care about the earnings and absolutely nothing much more.

The internet is a tool that one can make use of in order to search for the providers of the service. It enables one to be in a position to conduct a quick and comprehensive search for any information that they may require. It is therefore a helpful tool when it comes to conducting any search through the Globe Wide Internet.

A firm that is truthful with you from the starting is a good firm. This is a firm that will take your case seriously as they are aware that you have a lot riding on the services that they provide. It is consequently good to ensure that any firm that you deal with is in a position to display some levels of this high quality.

Workers compensation insurance California is a reprieve for workers. They can go about their duties knowing that they are assured that they nonetheless have a supply of livelihood had been anything to occur to them. Each and every worker needs to get this cover.

Bankruptcy on Student Loans | Finance World

Mar 19 2012

Most people get through with education with the help of loans especially when looking to get further education, say like at the university level. In the long run, it could prove to be difficult to pay up the student loan offered to you. When faced with such a situation, it is common for most people to seek bankruptcy claim as a way of shielding themselves from the possible outcomes.

However, it is important to know that student loans are not dischargeable even in the cases of bankruptcy. Student loans with government backing or nonprofit organizations backing have to be paid back in full whether you are in a position to do so or not. This therefore rules out a bankruptcy claim as a solution to your student loan problems.

The only way you can have your claim accepted is if you are in a position to prove extreme difficulty in paying up the loan which is hard to do. To do so, you might be required to prove that you are unable to keep up with the set payment schedule for your loan, that in future you have no hope of paying up the loan meaning that the current financial situation is definitely permanent. You also have to prove that you have done your best in trying to pay up but have failed.

Proving the above is what proves to be difficult for most people, therefore making it irrelevant to even try out a bankruptcy case on your student loan. It is virtually impossible to prove that your current financial position is permanent since even though you could be unemployed, it does not necessarily mean that you will not find great opportunities in the future. This makes it better for you to forget the possibility of having a bankruptcy claim work to your advantage since it is certain that it will not.

To get your student loan discharged, you can turn to other available solutions that could be of help in your situation. There are credit agencies that specialize in advising people faced with bankruptcy on the various options available for them to get off their financial woes. It is likely that you will find something that will work to your advantage in the counseling session bringing you relief.

New MIT analysis shows there's enough room to safely store at least a century's worth of US fossil fuel emissions

A new study by researchers at MIT shows that there is enough capacity in deep saline aquifers in the United States to store at least a century's worth of carbon dioxide emissions from the nation's coal-fired powerplants. Though questions remain about the economics of systems to capture and store such gases, this study addresses a major issue that has overshadowed such proposals.

The MIT team's analysis led by Ruben Juanes, the ARCO Associate Professor in Energy Studies in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and part of the doctoral thesis work of graduate students Christopher MacMinn PhD '12 and Michael Szulczewski is published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Coal-burning powerplants account for about 40 percent of worldwide carbon emissions, so climate change "will not be addressed unless we address carbon dioxide emissions from coal plants," Juanes says. "We should do many different things" such as developing new, cleaner alternatives, he says, "but one thing that's not going away is coal," because it's such a cheap and widely available source of power.

Efforts to curb greenhouse gases have largely focused on the search for practical, economical sources of clean energy, such as wind or solar power. But human emissions are now so vast that many analysts think it's unlikely that these technologies alone can solve the problem. Some have proposed systems for capturing emissions mostly carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels then compressing and storing the waste in deep geological formations. This approach is known as carbon capture and storage, or CCS.

One of the most promising places to store the gas is in deep saline aquifers: those more than half a mile below the surface, far below the freshwater sources used for human consumption and agriculture. But estimates of the capacity of such formations in the United States have ranged from enough to store just a few years' worth of coal-plant emissions up to many thousands of years' worth.

The reason for the huge disparity in estimates is twofold. First, because deep saline aquifers have no commercial value, there has been little exploration to determine their extent. Second, the fluid dynamics of how concentrated, liquefied carbon dioxide would spread through such formations is very complex and hard to model. Most analyses have simply estimated the overall volume of the formations, without considering the dynamics of how the CO2 would infiltrate them.

The MIT team modeled how the carbon dioxide would percolate through the rock, accounting not only for the ultimate capacity of the formations but the rate of injection that could be sustained over time. "The key is capturing the essential physics of the problem," Szulczewski says, "but simplifying it enough so it could be applied to the entire country." That meant looking at the details of trapping mechanisms in the porous rock at a scale of microns, then applying that understanding to formations that span hundreds of miles.

"We started with the full complicated set of equations for the fluid flow, and then simplified it," MacMinn says. Other estimates have tended to oversimplify the problem, "missing some of the nuances of the physics," he says. While this analysis focused on the United States, MacMinn says similar storage capacities likely exist around the world.

Howard Herzog, a senior research engineer with the MIT Energy Initiative and a co-author of the PNAS paper, says this study "demonstrates that the rate of injection of CO2 into a reservoir is a critical parameter in making storage estimates."

When liquefied carbon dioxide is dissolved in salty water, the resulting fluid is denser than either of the constituents, so it naturally sinks. It's a slow process, but "once the carbon dioxide is dissolved, you've won the game," Juanes says, because the dense, heavy mixture would almost certainly never escape back to the atmosphere.

While this study did not address the cost of CCS systems, many analysts have concluded that they could add 15 to 30 percent to the cost of coal-generated electricity, and would not be viable unless a carbon tax or a limit on carbon emissions was put in place.

While uncertainties remain, "I really think CCS has a role to play," Juanes says. "It's not an ultimate salvation, it's a bridge, but it may be essential because it can really address the emissions from coal and natural gas."

Army sergeant accused of Afghan killings struggled to pay bills, passed over for promotion

LAKE TAPPS, Wash. - Bypassed for a promotion and struggling to pay for his house, Robert Bales was eyeing a way out of his job at a Washington state military base months before he allegedly gunned down 16 civilians in an Afghan war zone, records and interviews showed as a deeper picture emerged Saturday of the Army sergeant's financial troubles and brushes with the law.

While Bales, 38, sat in an isolated cell at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.'s military prison Saturday, classmates and neighbours from suburban Cincinnati, Ohio, remembered him as a "happy-go-lucky" high school football player who took care of a special needs child and watched out for troublemakers in the neighbourhood.

But court records and interviews show that the 10-year veteran ? with a string of commendations for good conduct after four tours in Iraq and Afghanistan ? had joined the Army after a Florida investment job went sour, had a Seattle-area home condemned, struggled to make payments on another and failed to get a promotion or a transfer a year ago.

His legal troubles included charges that he assaulted a girlfriend and, in a hit-and run accident, ran bleeding in military clothes into the woods, court records show. He told police he fell asleep at the wheel and paid a fine to get the charges dismissed, the records show.

Military officials say that after drinking on a southern Afghanistan base, Bales crept away on March 11 to two slumbering villages overnight, shooting his victims and setting many of them on fire. Nine of the 16 killed were children and 11 belonged to one family.

"This is some crazy stuff if it's true," Steve Berling, a high school classmate, said of the revelations about the father of two known as "Bobby" in his hometown of Norwood, Ohio.

Bales hasn't been charged yet in the shootings, which have endangered complicated relations between the U.S. and Afghanistan and threatened to upend U.S. policy over the decade-old war.

His former platoon leader said Saturday Bales was a model soldier inspired by 9-11 to serve who saved lives in firefights on his second of three Iraq missions.

"He's one of the best guys I ever worked with," said Army Capt. Chris Alexander, who led Bales on a 15-month deployment in Iraq.

"He is not some psychopath. He's an outstanding soldier who has given a lot for this country."

But pressing family troubles were hinted at by his wife, Kari, on multiple blogs posted with names like The Bales Family Adventures and BabyBales. A year ago, she wrote that Bales was hoping for a promotion or a transfer after nine years stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord outside Tacoma, Wash.

"We are hoping to have as much control as possible" over the future, Kari Bales wrote last March 25. "Who knows where we will end up. I just hope that we are able to rent our house so that we can keep it. I think we are both still in shock."

After Bales lost out on a promotion to E7 ? a first-class sergeant ? the family hoped to go to either Germany, Italy or Hawaii for an "adventure," she said. They hoped to move by last summer; instead the Army redeployed his unit ? the 2nd Infantry Division of the 3rd Stryker Brigade, named after armoured Stryker vehicles ? to Afghanistan.

It would be Bales' fourth tour in a war zone. He joined the military two months after 9-11 and spent more than three years in Iraq during three separate assignments since 2003. His attorney said he was injured twice in Iraq ? once losing part of his foot ? but his 20 or so commendations do not include the Purple Heart, given to soldiers wounded in combat.

Alexander said Bales wasn't injured while he oversaw him during their deployment ? Bales' second in Iraq. He called Bales a "very solid" officer who didn't have more difficulty than his fellow soldiers with battlefield stress. Bales shot at a man aiming a rocket-propelled grenade at his platoon's vehicle in Mosul, Iraq, sending the grenade flying over the vehicle.

"There's no doubt he saved lives that day," Alexander said. The charges he killed civilians is "100 per cent out of character for him," he said.

Bales always loved the military and war history, even as a teenager, said Berling, who played football with him in the early 1990s on a team that included Marc Edwards, a future NFL player and Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots.

"I remember him and the teacher just going back and forth on something like talking about the details of the Battle of Bunker Hill," he said. "He knew history, all the wars."

Bales exulted in the role once he finally achieved it. Plunged into battle in Iraq, he told an interviewer for a Fort Lewis base newspaper in 2009 that he and his comrades proved "the real difference between being an American as opposed to being a bad guy."

Bales joined the Army, Berling said, after studying business at Ohio State University ? he attended three years but didn't graduate ? and handled investments before the market downturn pushed him out of the business. Florida recordsshow that Bales was a director at an inactive company called Spartina Investments Inc. in Doral, Fla.; his brother, Mark Bales, and a Mark Edwards were also listed as directors.

"I guess he didn't like it when people lost money," Berling said.

He was struggling to keep payments on his own home in Lake Tapps, a rural reservoir community about 35 miles south of Seattle; his wife asked to put the house on the market three days before the shootings, real estate Philip Rodocker said.

"She told him she was behind in our payments," Rodocker told The New York Times. "She said he was on his fourth tour and it was getting kind of old and they needed to stabilize their finances."

The house was not officially put on the market until Monday; on Tuesday, Rodocker said, Bales' wife called and asked to take the house off the market, talking of a family emergency.

Bales and his wife bought the Lake Tapps home in 2005, according to records, for $280,000; it was listed this week at $229,000. Overflowing boxes were piled on the front porch, and a U.S. flag leaned against the siding.

The sale may have been a sign of financial troubles. Bales and his wife also own a home in Auburn, about 10 miles north, according to county records, but abandoned it about two years ago, homeowners' association president Bob Baggett said. Now signs posted on the front door and window by the city warn against occupying the house.

"It was ramshackled," Baggett said. "They were not dependable. When they left there were vehicles parts left on the front yard...we'd given up on the owners."

The diverging portrait of the sergeant rippled across the country on Saturday.

"It's our Bobby. He was the local hero," said Michael Blevins, who grew up down the street from him in Norwood, Ohio. The youngest of five boys respected older residents, admonished troublemakers and loved children, even helping another boy in the area who had special needs.

In Washington state, court records showed a 2002 arrest for assault on a girlfriend. Bales pleaded not guilty and was required to undergo 20 hours of anger management counselling, after which the case was dismissed.

A separate hit-and-run charge was dismissed in Sumner, Wash.'s municipal court three years ago, according to records. It isn't clear from court documents what Bales hit; witnesses saw a man in a military-style uniform, with a shaved head and bleeding, running away.

When deputies found him in the woods, Bales told them he fell asleep at the wheel. He paid about $1,000 in fines and restitution and the case was dismissed in October 2009.

Dan Conway, a military attorney who represented one of four Lewis-McChord soldiers convicted in the deliberate killings of three Afghan civilians in 2010, said whether legal scrapes affect a soldier's career depends in part on whether they prompt the Army to issue administrative penalties. The punishments are typically recorded in official personnel files.

Over the past decade, Conway said, the military has sometimes been lax in administering such punishments. As a result, soldiers who might be bad apples sometimes remain in service longer than they otherwise might have.

"It's something you want to note," Conway said. "The best predictor of future violence is past violence."

Bales' lawyer, John Henry Browne of Seattle, said he didn't know if his client had been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder at the time of the shootings, but said it could be an issue at trial if experts believe it's relevant.

He also said Friday he didn't know if his client had been drinking the night of the massacre. Browne didn't return telephone calls on Saturday. His legal team has said Browne will be meeting with Bales at Fort Leavenworth next week.

Belarus executes 2 men convicted of subway bombing

MINSK, Belarus (AP) ? Two men convicted of carrying out a deadly subway bombing last year in Belarus' capital have been executed, drawing strong condemnation from activists and the European Union.

The mother of one of the two 26 year olds said that she had received official notification of the execution of her son, Vladislav Kovalyov. State television reported late Saturday that both Kovalyov and Dmitry Konovalov had been put to death, which in Belarus is done with a shot to the back of the head.

Human rights activists condemned the hasty executions, saying they deprived society of the opportunity to learn the truth.

"The government was in a rush to throw a white shroud over all the contradictions and discrepancies in the case," activist Lyudmila Gryaznova said Sunday. "The execution of the so-called terrorists, whose guilt remains under suspicion, gives the appearance that the government is concealing the traces of the crime."

The men were convicted in November of planting a bomb in Minsk's busiest subway station that killed 15 people and wounded more than 300 in April.

Konovalov had acknowledged his guilt. Investigators said Kovalyov was aware of the plans to bomb the subway, but he insisted he did not take part and pleaded not guilty. Their defense lawyers said the evidence presented in court was circumstantial and inconclusive.

Critics of authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko accused his government of staging the bombing to divert attention from the worst economic crisis in the country's post-Soviet history.

Belarusians angered by the executions came to lay flowers or light candles outside the subway station on Sunday.

"The government shot these boys so quickly that I have even more doubts about their guilt," said Tatyana Snezhinskaya, a 42-year-old teacher, who was among those laying flowers. "The death penalty should be abolished. We should not take the lives of people, especially of those who might be the victims of judicial errors or political orders."

Flowers also were laid outside Belarus' embassy in Moscow, where someone had placed a sign with photographs of the two men and the words: "They were killed on Lukashenko's whim."

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton is "aware of the terrible crimes that these two men were accused of and her thoughts are with the victims and their families," her spokesman said in a statement.

"At the same time, the high representative notes that the two accused were not accorded due process, including the right to defend themselves."

Lukashenko last week ignored appeals from Ashton and others for clemency.

The time and place of executions in Belarus are kept secret. Relatives of those executed are notified afterward, if at all, and are not told where the bodies are buried.

Belarus is the only country in Europe that still puts people to death, and rights activists claim that around 400 people have been executed since the 1991 Soviet collapse.

How To Publish Your Works Of Fiction On The Internet

A lot of aspects of business are done on the Internet, and publishing is not an exception to this rule. In the light of this, POD, or Print on Demand, is a form of technology you may want to consider if you wish to have your works of fiction published.

Print on demand makes it possible for a complete book to be printed and bound in an extremely short amount of time. Let?s face it ? conventional printing and binding can be very wasteful and expensive in the long run.

You can choose from several online publishing sites on the Internet if print on demand is your chosen route in getting your works of fiction published. They?ll also print and bind the book per each order and provide listings in online bookstores.

These online service providers will charge a fee for handling your fiction book. These services may not include the usual editing or formatting for your documents, but they should be able to do a routine spell check as part of their operating policy.

As a first time author, POD can be the answer to publishing your initial work of fiction. You don?t have to contract with a publishing company and wait for an editor to review and pass approval on your work.

A lot of academic institutions are using POD as a way to cut down on the costs of printing and binding books, as well as storing unused copies of published books. Even non-fiction writers are jumping on the POD bandwagon, using this to cut down on costs and save time on getting their books published.

POD, though, is different from your usual self-publishing service. Self-publishing services, for instance, give you as the writer full control over the publishing process, and that would include pricing your book and designing the cover. If you choose POD, you?re limited to the publisher?s offering of services.

It is always helpful to get more information on POD, so if you wish to do some reading up, there are several sites you can visit. Some of these sites include Blurb, BookSurge, iUniverse and Xlibris.

You should definitely consider the POD method of publishing your fiction if you simply don?t want the hassle of going through the submission process of commercial publishers. And, if you?ve tried the ?normal? route with no success, POD may be the best option to catapult your work of art for the world to read.
