Researchers believe they may have found a connection between quitting smoking and eating lots of fruit and veg.
If you?re looking for something to help with kicking smoking, then why not try chowing down on some apples and oranges... or even a coconut?
Apparently, eating your fair share of fruit and vegetables may be the best way to stop smoking. The news comes after researchers in the US found that those who regularly ate fruit and veg tended to give up the smokes easier than those who ate less of the stuff.
The researchers looked at around 1,000 adult smokers aged 25 and older and they studied their smoking and eating habits over the course of 14 months.
According to the researchers, those who ate the most fruit and veg were three times more likely to quit the cancer sticks for at least 30 days more than those who ate less.
However, it doesn?t look like you can throw the chewing gum and patches away just yet.
Study author Jeffery P Haibach, a graduate research assistant at the University of Buffalo in New York said, ?We may have identified a new tool that can help people quit smoking. Granted this is just an observational study, but improving one?s diet may facilitate quitting.?
